i. Ensure the safety of all employees, machineries and equipment in the section or department for which they are responsible.
ii. Prior to the commencement of work, inspect all tools, machineries and equipment and work conditions to ensure they are free from hazards.
iii. Ensure that instruction in correct work procedures and methods are given to all employees under their direct supervision.
iv. Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) are issued to their units as and when due, and these are in turn issued to workers under their supervision according to job specification demands.
v. Enforce all health, safety and environmental regulations which affected their work areas.
